Serviced Office Center Caters to Miami’s International Scene
Published June 23rd, 2009 by Jennifer LeClaire
Downtown Miami is a bustling international commercial center and millions of square feet of new office space coming is online in 2010 to meet with the expected demand in the years ahead. Hey, they don’t call Miami the gateway to Latin America for nothing.
Business Centers International (BCI) got a head start. BCI is ready and waiting for the commercial real estate rebound with its own brand of executive office suites at Brickell, the city’s financial district, and in nearby Coral Gables.
BCI opened its serviced office doors in 2001, during the last economic downturn. The local brand offers customized office spaces, modern lobby areas and conference rooms with a touch of luxury that caters to, as its name suggests, international businessmen.
A Premier Location
BCI’s Brickell office is located in the Espirito Santo Plaza, Miami’s premier 35-story office tower, condominium and luxury hotel. Its ultra-modern and imposing design has already made it a well-known Miami landmark. The building’s central downtown location provides quick and easy access to major businesses, fine dining, highways, as well as the area’s most desirable residential neighborhoods. Smart choice!
As for the company itself, BCI offers three different levels of service: Business Identity Program, a Full Office Program and a Meeting Facilities Program. Basically, that means they offer virtual offices, full-time offices and meeting room rentals. Companies like Time Warner, Microsoft and Adobe are officing there, giving the brand plenty of credibility.
What’s interesting about BCI is its concierge approach to serviced offices. Or, I should say, it would be interesting if they communicated what that approach was. The company promises to go above and beyond competing serviced office spaces in the local area, but it doesn’t say how. That’s a common error I see in the communications efforts of executive office suites industry players. The promises sound great, but the details are often scant.
An International Standout
Based on the info on the company’s Web site, BCI’s offering looks fairly standard in the serviced office industry. One exception may be the Hotdesk Offices, which are popular in areas that are prone to natural and man-made disasters. With hurricane season upon us, BCI may be seeing requests spike on that front.
Another potential standout is team offices. I hadn’t heard of the term “team offices” before. Sounds like a large office that serves as a mini co-working facility. I’d welcome someone from Business Centers International to reach out with more information for our readers.
One thing that definitely stands out – and something that’s absolutely necessary for a serviced office center that caters to international businessmen – is the staff. Business Centers International employs trained office professionals who speak several languages. Of course, that’s probably not too uncommon in Miami, either. Talented professionals who speak multiple languages aren’t hard to come by in these parts.
All in all, BCI is definitely worth a visit. The location is prime time, the building amenities are attractive, the brand has been around long enough to understand what its clients need, and it’s got a superstar roster of Fortune 500 clients. Tell Monica West, the center manager, that aBetterOffice.com sent you.

You sure won’t find people speaking multiple languages at serviced office centers in Cleveland, Ohio. But you don’t need them too, either. This is a good example of how a serviced office facility has adapted to the specific needs of the local market. I can’t imagine trying to do business in an international market like Miami without having people on staff who are multilingual.

There are several new office buildings that are opening in Downtown Miami next year. I don’t know if any of them will rent out space to competing executive office suites providers or if the older buildings will end up doing that. It just sounds like such a flood of space in such a terrible economy. I guess Business Centers International probably competes by hosting a lot of companies from Latin American vacations for short-term rentals.

I’ve heard that the companies from Latin America test the waters in Miami by renting temporary office space before singing a lease. That’s not much different than what American companies do when they move into new markets, especially foreign markets. From a location perspective, Miami is definitely the place for them to be. Sounds like BCI is a first-class serviced office company.

I don’t know what team offices are either, so I don’t think it’s a standard serviced office industry term. I even looked it up. All I found was office furniture companies. I think it’s dangerous for companies to try to list features and benefits when nobody knows what they are talking about. Maybe their target audience knows what team offices are. Could be an international buzzword I suppose. Didn’t make any sense to me.

Hotdesk office are growing in popularity. For those of you who don’t know what these are. Hotdesking carries the notion of temporary occupants, sort of of like co-working. But the need for temp offices grows when there is a major disaster in a local area. Business folk may travel to nearby cities to try to find a place to work.
