Regus Opens Serviced Office Center in Chicago’s River North Area
Published September 8th, 2009 by Jennifer LeClaire
The Regus Group is springing up in the serviced office space expansion news again. This time, the flexible workplace solutions giant is opening the doors to yet another facility in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Regus just announced a new location at the River North area of downtown Chicago. Specifically, Regus took up 25,000 square feet on the fifth floor of 321 N. Clark Street. If you visit, you’ll find 93 offices, one board room and two conference rooms there.
The River North facility puts Regus one opening away from a major milestone. River North is Regus’ 999th center worldwide and its 28th in the Chicago area. Regus did not offer any hints as to where its 1,000th location would be.
Searching for Office Space Flexibility
Jeff Doughman, Central Region vice president for Regus, said the company continues to see strong demand for its cost-effective workplace solutions - even in the tough environment. Regus repeatedly says its clients typically experience up to a 60 percent savings on their facilities costs over leasing traditional office space.
“Given the economic uncertainty, we’re finding that our clients are looking for flexibility and avoiding committing to long-term, risky office space leases,” Doughman says. “Our clients have long been requesting a center in the River North area so we’re pleased to open our first location here.”
Regus offers a variety of what it calls “business-ready workplace products.” Those include fully furnished, fully staffed private offices, meeting rooms and on-site business and administrative support services, at its Chicago area facilities.
Regus Virtual Offices
Companies that don’t need a full-time office can tap into Regus’ virtual office products. Regus bills its virtual offices as a way for businesses to instantly gain a presence in a new market with a prestigious, high-profile business address and local telephone answering and mail handling services.
“Our new River North center is perfect for companies of all sizes including those nearby home-based businesses needing a more professional environment in which to work, law firms with its close proximity to the courthouse, or enterprise-level organizations that are seeking to set up satellite offices downtown,” Doughman says.

28 serviced offices in Chicago. Wow. Regus must completely dominate the market there. There must be a Regus executive office suite at every major intersection in Chicagoland. Pretty impressive, actually, that they could go in with such a strong showing in such a major city. They seem to have all their bases covered. I wonder if they’ll open a 29th serviced office space in Chicago.

It’s going to be very interesting to see where Regus opens its 1,000 facility. Will they do it in the U.S. or in Europe? Will they do it in a major city or a small town? I wonder if they will have some special campaign around the 1,000th facility sort of like they used to do for the millionth customer in the grocery store. Very interesting. That is a major milestone.

I bet Regus will make a huge deal out of its 1,000th facility. As to where they actually open it, they probably have two or three choices, where lease deals are already put into place. I’m sure they did all the market research to develop a strategy around this. If it’s not spectacular, I’m going to be disapointed.

Interesting. If Regus has 28 serviced offices in Chicago, then there must literally be more than a hundred in total. Surely, Regus has some competitors there. I heard coworking is starting to take off there as well. It’s good to see companies in the executive office suites industry continue to expand. That’s good news.
