Regus Opens New Park Avenue Executive Office Suites in Manhattan

“Dahling, I love you, but give me Park Avenue…” Of all things, the theme song to Green Acres with Eva Gabor came to mind when I read about Regus’ latest serviced office space opening.

That’s because the executive office suites behemoth just opened a new facility at 150 Park Avenue in Manhattan. The Regus center at 250 Park offers a world-class business address that even Gabor would approve. The business center is minutes away from Grand Central Station.  It offers flexible terms on fully furnished private offices, meeting rooms and, of course, virtual offices.

With the latest business center opening, Regus now has 18 locations in New York City. That figure dominates the Manhattan serviced office landscape, though Jay Suites is looking to catch up, recently opening its third location in Manhattan. Regus credits its rapid Manhattan expansion to providing solutions that help companies of all sizes compete with scalable, cost-effective solutions.

I’d have to agree. Regus offers a much better deal, especially for start-ups, than traditional office space leases in New York. And I expect Regus to continue expanding in New York City, especially when I read comments like this from Regus execs:

“We are receiving numerous inquiries in the New York area as the economy gains momentum,” says Donna Scott, vice president of Regus’ East Region. “An uptick in new business start-ups and market expansion is increasing the demand for office space with flexible terms that support an array of business needs.”

Since the fourth quarter of 2006, Regus has opened six new business centers in New York City and has several additional openings planned for the coming year. Regus gives kudos to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the New York City Economic Development Corporation for creating a business-friendly environment that encourages start-ups as well as growing firms exploring new markets like bioscience and green technology and making continued investments in core industries like financial services, media, and fashion.

Regus says it’s committed to doing its part in supporting the local economy through its turnkey office space business model, along with its Win an Office Sweepstakes. Regus has already awarded two New York City entrepreneurs with free office space for 12 months. No specific word on where exactly Regus will open its next serviced office space in New York. But expect another announcement shortly.

Regus is moving quickly. How many serviced office facilities do they have now? It seems like they have slowed down the torrent pace from last fall, but who knows? Maybe they are planning to kick it into high gear again. The blend of urban and suburban locations seems to be working out well for Regus.

I thought the comparison between Regus and Jay Suites was interesting. I know Jay Suites is up to its third serviced office space in Manhattan now. Unless something changes, of course, Regus would will probably double its presence in New York City before Jay Suites reaches 18 executive office suite facilities. But it should be an interesting rivalry nonetheless.
