Regus Opens New Office Space in Westlake, Ohio

Regus is moving into new territory—and launching a new sweepstakes to start serviced office business off with a bang. The industry behemoth just opened a new business center in the Crocker Park lifestyle mall in Westlake, Ohio.

Regus’ foray into Crocker Park is part of the company’s mandate to bring its workplace solutions closer to the burbs. Of course, Regus isn’t just moving into any suburban area. Its site selection strategy looks for high-growth suburbs that can sustain the serviced office space model. The company has decided Westlake is one Ohio suburb that fits the bill.

“As cities around the country become more congested, businesses are seeking workplaces that are more accessible, convenient and flexible,” says Jeff Doughman, Central Region Vice President of The Regus Group. “Crocker Park is one of the most exciting lifestyle developments of its kind in the country, providing our clients with a great place to work in a unique live, work and play environment.”

Regus reports a “significant increase” in inquiries in the Cleveland metro. The company also points to job growth in the state. Ohio added 37,300 jobs, more than any other state, in April. As Regus sees it, that’s a clear sign that businesses in Ohio are pulling out of the recession—and the company wants to be there to support the growth with its office space solutions.

Win Free Office Space at Regus
Regus just picked winners of several sweepstakes it ran in cities like San Francisco, Phoenix, Chicago and Manhattan. Now, the company is running a mini version of its sweepstakes to entrepreneurs who to rent office space in Cleveland-area cities.

Specifically, Regus is offering local businesses the chance to win free office space for a year at any of the firm’s four Cleveland metro locations. Businesses can enter the Win an Office Sweepstakes online. The contest is until June 30, and the winner will be notified on July 31.

Regus is also holding a grand opening event at the new Crocker Park center on Thursday, June 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Several local dignitaries including Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough and members from the Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance.  The center is located on the 4th floor of 159 Crocker Park Boulevard, Westlake, Ohio 44145.

I think Regus’ strategy to locate in the suburbs of large cities is a long-term winner. Not everyone wants to travel to the urban core to rent office space. By moving the office space closer to where families live and work, Regus could effectively extend its brand to new audiences. Having office space in a lifestyle center is an emerging trend and one that offers ultra convenience to professionals who want quick access to restaurants and retail.

I like the Regus ‘burb’ strategy. I think it’s the next natural step for Regus. I am thinking, though, that the smaller serviced office space providers probably are already located in the suburbs. If that’s the case, it’s not good news for the independent business center operators. But it does make perfect sense for Regus to make this move.

Westlake… I am not even sure where that is but it sounds like it’s an up and coming suburb for Regus to want to expand there. You mentioned how office space in lifestyle centers is a trend. I am beginning to see a bit of that as well. I think it offers a built-in audience for office space centers. Attorneys, accountants and others can be close to clients and potential clients.
