Regus Opens New Executive Office Suites in Atlanta Area
Published July 22nd, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
Can you see the Regus Vs. Servcorp battle heating up? Yesterday I reported on Servcorp’s third U.S. serviced office facility in Buckhead. Today, Regus made a competitive Atlanta area announcement of its own: new executive office suites at Perimeter Summit.
Looking for office space in Atlanta?
On Thursday, Regus officially opened a full service business center in Atlanta’s Perimeter Summit in response to “the increased demand for scalable, affordable workplaces with urban lifestyle amenities.”
In its announcement, Regus put a spotlight on its rapid expansion in the Atlanta area to meet the needs of growing businesses. Regus now has 23 serviced office space facilities in Atlanta, compared to Servcorp’s single project. And Regus is clearly pushing the “we’ve been here longer” marketing card with its Perimeter Summit location.
Sharing the Serviced Office Wealth
Regus is also pointing to the tremendous growth in Atlanta, which could suggest there’s plenty room for Regus and Servcorp to share the serviced office wealth. According to a study by the Policom Group, Atlanta’s economy is the 18th strongest in the nation due to its rapid, consistent growth in both size and quality.
“Atlanta’s economy is growing, along with the need for workplace solutions that can be tailored to the needs of businesses and the people who work there,” said Donna Scott, East Region vice president of Regus. “Our center is designed to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, mobile professionals, and growing businesses that need more customized workplace solutions. Larger corporations can leverage our offerings to gain an immediate footprint without significant up-front capital expenditures.”
As Scott sees it, people are working harder than ever during the economic recovery, making convenience and a shorter commute important. Atlanta ranks as one of the highest concentration of U.S. automobile commuting cities at 91 percent.
Checking Out Perimeter Summit
While Servcorp is betting on the state-of-the-art Terminus building in Buckhead, Regus took a completely different route for its 23rd Atlanta location. Regus chose an urban lifestyle community called Perimeter Summit to set up shop. Regus is billing Perimeter Summit as a location where companies can enjoy a premier business address while also tapping into a live, work and play environment.
Regus did its homework on this one. The Environmental Protection Agency has named Perimeter Summit among the best places to work for commuters because of the project’s innovative commuter programs. Tenants can take advantage of discounted MARTA passes , commuter rewards incentives such as gift cards, and reserved parking for carpools and vanpools.
Clearly, Servcorp is just getting started in Atlanta while Regus is exploring its urban lifestyle strategy to branch out beyond the traditional business districts in Atlanta. Regus has a more mature approach to the market, having already established a stronghold downtown. Still, with all the growth it does seem there is room enough for both companies—and with its 23 locations Regus isn’t losing any sleep over Servcorp’s initial entrance into Atlanta.

The timing of all this is interesting. You are right. I wondered first why Servcorp waited two weeks to announce a facility in Buckhead that opened already. And now Regus is moving to the perimeter, literally. While Servcorp and Regus won’t hit head to head with these two facilities, I’m quite sure they’ll compete aggressively in Buckhead.

Looks like Regus is on the move again. And Atlanta is a hotbed for serviced office suites. But I agree with @Elizabeth. At some level, you have to wonder if the market can really sustain all of these new executive office suites facilities. I mean, the general malaise in the office market is also real in Atlanta. These companies must be placing long-term bets by trying to get deep discounts on empty space.
