Regus Offers Free Office Space Sweepstakes in Phoenix
Published January 6th, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
It’s hard to compete with Regus in some major metropolitan areas these days – especially when the serviced office giant starts offering free office space.
In like fashion to a recent offer in Manhattan, Regus is offering one year of free office space in the Phoenix area via its “Win an Office” sweepstakes. The contest will award one lucky entrepreneur 12 consecutive months of fully-furnished office space at one of Regus’ nine Phoenix-area locations.
“Regus has long-served as a resource for Phoenix-area businesses,” says Sande Golgart, west region vice president for Regus. “While we are seeing signs of economic recovery, 2009 was a difficult year for everyone. Regus wants to do its part in giving back to the community that has served us so well for so many years. That’s why we are offering to alleviate the burden of renting office space for one lucky business.”
Enter to Win a Free Office Space
Here’s how it works: You can enter the sweepstakes beginning now through March 31, 2010. And you don’t have to wait forever to find out if you won. Regus will announce winners of the free office space in Phoenix on or before April 15.
You don’t have to be a current Regus customer or buy anything from the company in order to participate. You can enter at RegusPhoenix.com or at any participating Regus location. When you do, you’ll be asked to explain how your business could benefit from a Regus office space. So get creative and offer a compelling story if you hope to be the big winner.
Regus’ Marketing Motive
Regus is a marketing genius. Golgart says Regus wants to do its part by giving back to the community. That’s the earmark of a good corporate citizen. Of course, you might have some other cities, such as Dallas or Seattle, that cry out for a similar contest in their area based on the fact that it “has served Regus well for so many years.” I wonder: will Regus replicate this contest in its hottest markets? |Such contests do generate publicity, and it gives Regus the opportunity to push the message that Golgart offers next to a listening audience…
“The total cost of leasing office space is often the single most expensive line item for any business – especially for small-to-medium sized enterprises. If you add on monthly recurring costs of managing and maintaining the space it can get even more expensive,” Golgart says. “Regus offers a range of smart, flexible and cost-effective workplace solutions to help our clients and we hope the winner of our contest will benefit greatly by focusing on growing their bottom line without worrying about leasing and managing office space.”

I thought Regus’ tempered optimism was interesting. Ms. Golgart said the economy was improving… is that the message we’re going to hear from the commercial real estate market this year as they struggle to fill up vacant office space around the country? In any case, a contest for free office space is definitely an attention-getter. I wonder if Regus occupancy is down in Phoenix and that is the real reason they chose this market.

What Regus does next will be telling. As you mentioned, they already did a free office space contest in Manhattan. What they do next will demonstrate perhaps more of the motive. Of course, we don’t have the statistics to know if Regus is moving to boost its business in the Phoenix area or not. But we do know that occupancies in office space generally are down.

Whilst I applaud Regus’s actions in using these various promotions to increase the reach of the industry, it is hyperbole to say that it’s difficult to compete with them. It’s a competitive market and there are many other groups in the major areas only to ready to offer competing space. Start off by looking at ABCN members…
