Regus Gives Free Office Space to Phoenix Entrepreneur
Published June 3rd, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
Move over Manhattan and Chicago, Regus is spreading the free office space wealth to Phoenix, too. In the latest in its string of free office sweepstakes winner announcements, Regus has named Christine Springer its latest beneficiary.
Springer, the founder of Desert Edge Legal Services, is the winner of Regus’ Phoenix “Win An Office” Sweepstakes. That means she gets 12 months of free, fully furnished office space at any one of Regus’ nine locations in the Phoenix area.
Springer was previously working out of a home office, so a Regus office space is going to be a major upgrade for the legal services entrepreneur. I can see how officing at 11811 North Tatum Boulevard could expose Springer to a new potential client base and give her a whole new business image literally overnight. This is one of the promises of the executive office suites industry.
“I’ve been working out of my home for three years,” Springer says. “My mother actually signed me up for this sweepstakes. I never thought I’d have the chance to win something so wonderful. Now that I’ve won, I will be able to grow my business and have the resources needed to succeed despite this tough economic climate.”
From its new Regus office space, Desert Edge Legal Services will continue to provide forensic loan audit services to attorneys and homeowners across the country. In addition, the company contracts paralegal services to attorneys. Springer uses her legal background to scrutinize and find problems in mortgage documents, going beyond the typical violations of the Truth In Lending and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.
Now here’s the rub: Will Springer’s new office space help her generate enough revenue to continue on with Regus—or some other office space in Phoenix—when her free year is up? It’s not clear whether Springer hadn’t leased an office space before now because she couldn’t afford it or just because she’s that frugal. Her decision to continue renting office space a year from now could depend, largely, on the fruit she sees from this deal. I’m sure Regus is hoping she hits the ball out of the park. If so, she could be a Regus customer for life.

Hey Jennifer:
I am the winner of the Phoenix office space mentioned in your article. For your information (as well as for your readers), I was two days away from signing a commercial office lease at another location. In fact, I had to break the news to my broker and the people at that space who were probably really disappointed given the glut of office space out there right now.
The tone of this article sounds like you were asking whether the prize from Regus is the sole reason I was able to move out of my home office. The answer is no. I am fortunate in that my business is growing very quickly because of the demand for our services.
However, the generous prize from Regus will allow me to do other things, such as hire an assistant and other people who can help me grow the business sooner than I would have been able to do so before I won. I am also looking into expanding into Los Angeles much sooner than I would have done if I had to pay for commercial office space.
There is no question in my mind that I will be able to afford commercial office space a year from now, thanks to Regus.

Ms. Springers move had nothing to do with the WIN! She was 24 hours from signing a two year lease on another location, the timing was luck. Why is there so much concern about WHY she didnt do it before? She needed to hire a bigger staff, an you can’t put them in your living room, nor meet clients on your couch with a dog and 3 cats around. She loves the space, and will no doubt need a bigger space in a year, so if it’s competitive? Why are you working at home? Are you “frugal”? or jealous?

I was just reading the other comments. How venemous @debbie is. My goodness. I didn’t read Jennifer’s article in that light at all. This is a blog, and that means people think out loud, share insights and opinions. It helps get people thinking. In any case, I think it’s great that Regus was able to help a successful entrepreneur take her business to the next level. Sounds like that’s just what she’s doing.

I don’t see being frugal as a bad thing. Anyway, I’m not going to get into this debate. Springer seems to have all her ducks in a row and seems grateful to Regus for the opportunity to spend her office budget in other ways that will help her grow the company. I think her last line said it best, “There is no question in my mind that I will be able to afford commercial office space a year from now, thanks to Regus.”

Hey Christine – Thanks so much for writing in and offering fuller details on your story. And congratulations on the free office space.
I’m sorry that you read some “tone” into the article that concerned you. The blog aims to get people thinking. There are probably many entrepreneurs like you, successful, and working out of their homes. (Do you have a dog and three cats?) The Regus office space would give them a more professional image, but they wonder if it’s worth the risk.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Waste neither time nor money, but make the best use of both. Without industry and frugality, nothing will do, and with them everything.” As he saw it, frugality was a virtue. Sometimes it’s more frugal to invest in a professional business image in the end.
I trust that your new Regus serviced office will do as I suggested in the blog commentary: expose you to a new potential client base.
Keep us posted on your success.
