Regus Gives Away One Year of Manhattan Office Space
Published May 31st, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
Charlie Oshman is celebrating this week. That’s because he just won a full year of free office space in Manhattan from Regus. Oshman, co-founder of REonomy, is the big winner of the Regus 2010 “Office Anywhere” Sweepstakes.
Oshman can choose a fully furnished office space at any of the 18 serviced office facilities Regus operates in New York City. He also gets a free Businessworld Platinum Plus membership, which gives him access to private office space at any one of Regus’ 1,000 business centers around the world.
“I am quite ecstatic honestly. Regus is providing us an opportunity we would not otherwise have,” Oshman says. “Having a Regus office will allow us to operate near our clients and partners. They have demonstrated a clear desire to assist in the development of New York tech companies with great potential, which is now more important than ever.”
Oshman believes the Regus office space will help take REonomy to the next level. His company has been building what he describes as a “big data” and analytics solution for the commercial real estate industry from an office in the Lower East side of Manhattan. Now, Oshman and his team will continue its innovative work from a more impressive 590 Madison Avenue location courtesy of Regus.
This is probably good timing for REonomy. With a down real estate market in New York City and beyond, saving thousands of dollars on office rent over the next year could allow the company more wiggle room to invest in its proprietary tools and MLS for the five boroughs of New York City and the majority of New Jersey.
Regus did not say what set REonomy apart from the other applicants. The company merely used the announcement as an opportunity to demonstrate its continued commitment to supporting New York entrepreneurs and start-ups. Regus has been operating in Manhattan for more than 20 years.
“Following the success of the 2009 ‘Win an Office’ sweepstakes in New York, we knew we wanted to continue to give back to the local business community,” says Donna Scott, east region vice president for Regus Americas. “The ‘Office Anywhere Sweepstakes’ allowed us to do that. We couldn’t be happier that Charlie and his company will benefit from this.”

Looks like a pretty innovative company. You make a good point in both your stories about why Regus picked that company. As I recall it, the companies had to submit a story about how the serviced office space could help them. I could be wrong, but I thought that was one of the requirements. So it would be great to know why these particular companies won.

Congrats to REonomy. I can bet having this more affluent office space location in Manhattan is going to boost the company’s image. I am not sure how they got out of their existing lease. Or perhaps their lease on the lower east side of Manhattan was already expired. Who knows. Great program Regus has running.
