Regus Ends One Sweepstakes, Launches Another
Published January 25th, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
Regus is making good on its promise to give away 12 months of free serviced office space in New York. The executive suites giant announced the winner of its 2009 New York ‘Win an Office’ Sweepstakes late last week.
And the winner is… (drum roll, please)… Pam Chmiel, the co-founder of Teen Entrepreneur Boot Camp, a non-profit that teaches young people about entrepreneurship through the real life experience of starting a business.
Chmiel will spend the next 12 months working from a fully furnished office space at any one of Regus’ 18 Manhattan locations she chooses. From there, she’ll teach teens how to launch their own business over a two-week period, creating everything from the concept to the logo to a press release, and ending in the business being open to the public.
“I am so excited! I keep pinching myself to make sure this is really happening. This is going to change our organization immensely, for the better,” Chmiel says. “Winning this office space is not only a productivity booster for our organization, but having a professional address will create the prestige Teen Entrepreneur Boot Camp needs to take it to the next level and help more kids.”
A New Serviced Office Contest
As one Regus sweepstakes ends, another begins. Regus has now officially launched the “Office Anywhere Sweepstakes.” Much like the recently concluded sweepstakes, the new contest will help a business create a base office in New York and give them access to private offices anywhere their business takes them.
The Office Anywhere Sweepstakes winner will receive one year of fully furnished and equipped office space at any of Regus’ 18 New York City locations – plus a Businessworld Platinum Plus membership. The membership gives them access to private offices at all of Regus’ 1,000 locations worldwide.
Here’s how to enter: Just fill out an entry form online at RegusNewYork.com or at participating Regus locations. The registration process gives you an opportunity to briefly explain how your business could benefit from a Regus office space. The deadline is March 31, 2010. A winner will be announced on or before April 15.
“The ‘Office Anywhere’ contest steps it up a notch, giving the winner a fully furnished office space in New York, to serve as their headquarters, and also access to all our locations across the world, helping them to expand and work anywhere they need to be,” says Donna Scott, east region vice president, Regus Americas.
I’m not sure what really set the Teen Entrepreneur Boot Camp apart from other entrants — or even how many entrants the Regus contest generated — but the winner of the next contest could demonstrate a trend… Is Regus looking to help non-profits? Does innovation play a role? It will be interesting to watch and see if there are any clues as to how Regus is awarding this free office space.

Looks like a worthy winner… equipping the next generation of Regus serviced office space users, LOL. This free office space contest seems more about publicity than community goodwill, but it will fill both bills, I suppose, especially since the winner is a non-profit agency. I am sure Regus made this selection strategically. I also wonder who else went out for the contest…

I notice that Regus does a lot of these free office space promotions in Manhattan. I wonder why that is… why not spread the wealth to other cities. Its not as if there aren’t plenty of entrepreneurs in Miami, Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc., that could use some free serviced office space… what’s so special about the New York office market?
