Preferred Offices Opens D.C. Serviced Office Location
Published April 8th, 2009 by Jennifer LeClaire
In an expansion that demonstrates the growth of the executive office suites industry, Preferred Offices has opened its ninth Washington, D.C.-area serviced office center.
Preferred Offices is among the business center companies that is defying the global economic crisis with traditional office space alternatives that serve the needs of entrepreneurs, small businesses and larger companies looking for more efficient office solutions.
Preferred Offices cites falling business confidence levels and general economic uncertainty as drivers toward the adoption of short-term, highly-flexible office space. The company reports double-digit growth in its Washington, D.C. area business centers. Collectively, Preferred centers have seen an increase in demand of 15 percent since December 2007. This growth led Preferred Offices to open the doors to its ninth D.C. metro area center last week. The latest location is in Rosslyn, Virginia.
“We’re encouraged that so many businesses are turning to flexible workplace solutions,” says Angie O’Grady, COO of Preferred Offices. “We provide fully equipped professional offices as a service that can be purchased for whatever duration required, so our clients avoid all of the upfront investment requirements and long-term liabilities that normally go along with setting up and running an office. This is a huge advantage in uncertain times.”
Targeting the Arlington’s Subcontractors
Preferred’s newest serviced office center is at Potomac Tower, a Class A landmark office building designed by I.M. Pei located at 1001 North 19th Street just two blocks from the Rosslyn Metro. The 18,000-square foot business center open March 30 with 62 offices and three meeting rooms.
Preferred Rosslyn features dozens of offices with monumental views of Washington D.C., Georgetown and the Potomac River. Preferred’s office suite clients enjoy enhanced technology offerings, such as interactive LCD white boards and secure Cisco VOIP telephony. The business center claims to be the first in the country with an innovative and secure electronic access system for individual offices. ABetterOffice.com was not able to confirm or deny this claims.
O’Grady said Preferred Office’s new center in Rosslyn gives the company an opportunity to deliver a best-in-class solution to the Arlington submarket, a vibrant area that is critical to the federal subcontracting community.
“Preferred allows government contractors to tailor workspace to specific contract demands. At the end of their business requirements, clients have no assets to mothball, no breakage costs and no subleasing requirements,” O’Grady says. “Preferred keeps government contractors nimble, and gives them stimulating executive environments for whatever length of time they might need.”
The Serviced Office Image
The Rehancement Group is one of those government subcontractors. The company is a tenant in Preferred’s Offices Reston Town Center location, from which it offers management consulting services to the federal government. The Rehancement Group used to operate as a home-based business, but needed a more professional environment that wouldn’t expose it to the risk of capital expenses, such as technical infrastructure, furniture and front office staff. The company shopped for space at four different executive office suite companies before settling on Preferred Offices.
“Preferred offered an extremely professional image and credibility for Rehancement with an excellent quality of service and attention to detail. This turnkey operation has allowed us to focus on what we do best, servicing our clients,” says David Baker, a principal with the firm. Rehancement started with a virtual office at Preferred in July 2008, and now leases three offices at the Reston Town Center location.
Rehancement enjoys a distinctive workspace environment, a prestigious addresses, a well-educated staff, and decorated executive offices and conference rooms and state-of-the-art business infrastructure. Services that include dedicated bandwidth, reception, administrative support, and audio and Web conferencing, small businesses can enjoy all of the tools of a large corporation – with no capital outlay.
Who is Preferred Offices?
Preferred Offices was founded in 2003. The company’s mission is to provide compelling professional business environments to clients who have small or rapidly changing workspace requirements. At Preferred Offices, clients can choose from several office, meeting room and support packages, including virtual office programs designed to provide part-time office space for mobile workers and telecommuters.

In my previous employment, we did a study of the Washington D.C. area executive suite market, and Preferred stood out as one of the best. Their locations are definitely top notch, and it looks like this one may be in that same category.

Targeting government subcontractors is a stroke of genius. Preferred Offices has tapped into a lucrative niche in the D.C. metro. Smart move. And the serviced office model really is perfect for government subcontractors because it offers flexibility to upgrade and downsize with no long-term commitments as the demand grows or shrinks.

Monumental views. What a selling point. Just goes to show you that you don’t have to be in a traditional office skyscraper to have an outstanding view — or outstanding amenities and attractive furnishings. Preferred Offices is offering quality serviced office space near the nation’s capital that competes price-wise with its traditional office space rentals in the D.C. area. Good show!

Preferred Offices is really pushing the ‘no capital outlay’ message. That’s always been one of the unique selling points in the serviced office industry and it’s been trumpeted from coast to coast. But it bears repeating because it’s the foundation of the value. Short-term leases are a great selling point, but the fact that you can rent a furnished office in a high quality building with all the equipment you need makes it a quick solution for office space.

I always think it’s helpful when you guys talk to the folks who actually use serviced offices. There’s nothing like hearing about an experience at an executive office suite from someone who is actively using a specific branch of a specific brand.

It’s not often I see serviced office companies calling out specific niches. I mean, I have seen executive office suite project focusing more on tech companies or creative firms. But those offices are generally very focused on just that target audience. Preferred’s concept of targeting government subcontractors makes sense given its geography. Just goes to show you that opportunity abounds if you keep your eyes open.

For the small home-based business or the newly established organization, professional virtual offices offer a convenient and cost-effective way to create a professional image for your company. I am also running a small business and after renting office provided by valleyhq I am very satisfied and feel like I am able to increase my business now.
