The free Friday promotion is a good one. Many may not have ever heard of coworking and they certainly don’t want to plunk down money to try out something that may not be a fit. Others may have heard of coworking but just want to see what the experience is like in a mixed environment. This isn’t a pure bred coworking facility, so the culture may be somewhat different.

Here’s the clincher: “The current economic climate has created a new category of mobile professionals who are demanding affordable, business-ready places to work, on-demand.” Officelinks is probably doing this because they need to offer a lower-cost option to the mix to keep their executive office suites facilities filled up. Everybody wins. Great idea.

The CEO said they did this coworking deal based on strong consumer demand. That’s probably true. It takes a lot of energy to organize this type of thing. It’s not just a matter of saying you are going to offer coworking and moving a few tables around. Officelinks is a smart company. They wouldn’t do this if they weren’t pretty sure they’d fill the spots. I’d love to hear some feedback from folks who try it out there.

Coworking in the Sears Tower. I bet the developers of that building never imagined such a thing. Such is progress. I am betting Officelinks tested the market before they decided to do this. I am also betting they have extra space they need to fill in their serviced office line up. I am not sure what the coworking spaces will cost, and if they do better by renting more of them more often than a stable executive office suites tenant… this is definitely a cool offering, though.

Wow, wow and wow. I’ve been waiting for the serviced office industry to catch on to this trend. I am not sure if OfficeLinks competitors will jump on this bandwagon or not. But I am sure the Reguses of the world are going to be paying close attention to how OfficeLinks fares with its latest roll out. The Free Fridays is a great marketing gimmick.
