Davinci Rolls Out Paralegal Services for Serviced Office Clients

In a move to drive more ancillary income, Davinci Office Suites is rolling out a service it’s betting will resonate with law firm clients in a down economy: paralegals.
Davinci is adding full-time, certified paralegals to serve its serviced office and virtual office clients in select locations, including all three Salt Lake City offices, as well as the Albuquerque, Las Vegas and Henderson sites.
The paralegals are available for most common legal tasks, including research, report writing and deposition summaries. They are also available for other secretarial and administrative tasks. All of them are Davinci Client Specialists.
“A certified, reliable paralegal can cost as much as $50,000, which is tough for small businesses to justify in this economy,” says Davinci Chairman Sam Souvall. “But similar to every other service we offer, such as office space and technology services, our clients can utilize these resources whenever and however they need them.”
Targeting Law Firms
Davinci is positioning the announcement as a way to make accessing legal services more convenient for its clients. Many Davinci clients are small law firms that apparently can’t afford to hire their own full-time paralegal.
This target market now has access to the paralegal services without the burden of paying the salary and benefits. Souvall envisions Davinci’s latest service as a way to strengthening the company’s offerings at a time when small businesses are struggling financially. But even growing small firms are tapping into the service.
“Even though our firm is serving a lot of clients at any given time, it’s still difficult to justify the expense and oversight of a full-time paralegal,” Andrew Stavros of Stavros Law, P.C., says. “Davinci’s paralegals have been able to lighten the load tremendously for us at a very low cost. It’s a great benefit to working with Davinci.”
This is a good example of Davinci working a niche. I imagine the company will add these services only in locations where it has several law firms agreeing that it would add value to their operations. This is a smart business. Maybe this is one reason why Davinci gets so much ink in the mainstream media.

I wonder how many law firms Davinci has to have in a particular serviced office facility to make adding a full-time paralegal worth it? Two, three, four? It would be interesting to see the formula, if there is one, or how they justified adding a full-time paralegal to those particular serviced office centers. It’s a low-risk, high value move for sure.

It looks like Davinci is really lowering its risk with this new serviced office paralegal offering. Not only can these full-time paralegals do the legal tasks, they are also Davinci certified to do general administrative tasks, which means other clients in the building besides law firms can use the services. Also, other clients who are not law firms can also use paralegals to write up simple contracts, etc. This is very strategic for sure.

Finding a niche and serving it well is business 101 and Davinci is exercising its smarts to serve a potentially lucrative niche. I wonder if they found a need by doing online surveys or just floated the concept out there to see what would fly. I also wonder what other niches might be served within the executive office suites industry. Where are the needs? Whoever can figure that out can get a great income stream.

Getting testimonials from law firms that are actually using the service is going to be a key to success for Davinci. It’s one thing to offer a service. It’s quite another to offer a valuable, reliable service. It looks like Davinci is well on its way to building up those testimonials so it can take the paralegal service to its executive office suites in other markets.

Davinci need to promote the value. Throwing out that $50,000 number as a salary savings is one way to do that, testimonials from satisfied clients is another. It’s a very interesting concept to make paralegals available within serviced office complexes as a pooled resource. It does make you think about what other types of pooled resources might make good revenues sources in the executive office industry. Of course, anybody can copy Davinci on this.

This makes a lot of sense. aBetterOffice has been getting lots of inquiries into office space from newly minted sole practitioners (even law firms are downsizing due to economic conditions). Nice service. We’ll see how it works out for Davinci.
