Champion Office Suites Eases LIRR Commute Frustrations
Published August 27th, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
Have you ever commuted on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)? If you, you’ve probably felt the frustration of delays. LIRR delays are likely to continue at least through the weekend, according to the Manhattan Transportation Authority (MTA).
The MTA continues to advise customers to expect significant schedule changes and delays as repair work and testing continues as a result of damage to a major switching tower at Jamaica Station caused by a cable fire on Monday morning. There are no guarantees it will be commuting as usual on Monday morning, either.
Champion Office Suites of Garden City, New York is coming to the rescue of LIRR commuters who are facing delays and massive inconveniences with the continuing service disruption. Champion Office Suites is offering frazzled commuters the ability to use its offices and conference rooms on an hourly or daily basis and waiving its normal membership fee requirements.
“I remember commuting into the city during service disruptions,” says Champion Office Suites owner Roger Kahn. “It is a major hassle and a big time-waster. I would have been much more efficient and effective had I been able to use local office space and avoid the commuting nightmare during the service disruption. I am happy to be able to offer commuters the solution that wasn’t available back when I was dealing with the headache.”
For the duration of the service disruption, people who normally commute into Manhattan can reserve office space and conference rooms at Champion Office Suites’ Garden City facility and not have to worry about the usual membership fee. This is a brilliant strategy by Kahn. This gives folks a taste of executive office suites on a no-risk basis. Even if it doesn’t drive much traffic, it’s still driving a measure of brand awareness for the serviced office space and virtual office operator. And it’s good community relations, too.

Kahn is a good marketer. He really tied in well to the Long Island Rail Road delay incident. Issues like that are a great time to bring awareness to a product that solves a problem, in this case long commutes. Serviced office operators should take a page out of Kahn’s savvy marketing book, pay attention to the current events, and try to see how executive office suites or virtual offices fit into the solution.
