Avanta Launches Concierge and Travel Desk in UK
Published January 5th, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
If what begins in Europe eventually makes its way to the U.S., then look for concierge desks to spring up in your local serviced office facility sometime this year.
Avanta is paving the way with its 18 United Kingdom business centers. Avanta just introduced what it’s calling a “Concierge and Travel Desk” that aims to free up valuable management time and allow serviced office clients to focus on running their core business.
So if your New Year’s resolution is to focus more on revenue-generating prospects and less on mundane tasks like booking travel and picking up dry cleaning, then this is the type of amenity you should look from your executive office suites provider. Of course, few offer this type of service, but apparently Avanta’s service spans the continent, at least to some extent. If you want tickets to the U.S., Avanta’s Concierge and Travel Desk can book it.
Avanta isn’t attempting to offer this service on its own. In order to help its serviced office space clients, the company is reaching out for help from folks who are well-suited to offer concierge and travel services. Avanta’s new service will be operated jointly by Cushion the Impact, CT Travel and Virtual City PA.
Here’s how it works: Avanta customers, in essence, will get to tap into the convenience of these service providers at a discounted rate. That means Avanta is getting a new revenue stream for opening the door for these companies to service its clients. Brilliant!
David Kinnaird, Avanta’s operations director, says the Concierge and Travel Desk was introduced in response to client requests as part of a focus group that serviced office giant held in London last year.
“We are continually improving and refining our product offerings and so we are delighted to be partnering with three high-quality companies, all of which are leaders in their specific fields,” Kinnaird says. “We are sure this will be a valuable service to our clients and one which help ease their workloads.”
In order to prime the pump, Avanta is giving away 50 free hours worth of help from concierge specialists Cushion the Impact. In other words, 50 clients will get one hour of free service so they can try it on for size. I’m not sure how Avanta is choosing those clients, but you can bet those hours will go quickly.
Serviced operators stateside should be paying attention to this deal. If you don’t partner with a concierge service, Regus probably will. There’s little downside to this operation, and revenues to be had. What are you waiting for?

Nice move. Avanta is on its game. I agree that serviced office companies need to get it together — and get creative — with some services like this. It might not be as popular in a down economy to pay someone to go pick up your dry cleaning, but then again there are still plenty of busy execs who would go for this and other concierge type services. I think this is a winning idea, if not now, then when the economy recovers.

This is a whole different ballgame than what Regus does. Rather than trying to encourage new customers to hook up with one of its executive office suites around the world as Regus does, Avanta is trying to drive additional revenue from its existing customers. I think the serviced office space should hit it from both sides. Why overlook any opportunity to drive revenue?
