A Look at Asia’s Serviced Office Growth

Here at aBetterOffice.com, we spend most of our time considering the executive office industry stateside. But now and again it’s good to broaden the scope of our coverage so we can see what’s going with the industry in the rest of the world.

Today is one of those days. That’s because The Executive Centre, a serviced office provider that promises contemporary, and ergonomic workplace environments and its exceptional business support services, has offered insight into a busy 2008.

Looking back, The Executive Centre launched six new business centers in China in last year and made its first move into India, opening a new business center in Mumbai in September. 2008 also saw the company launch its second project in Sydney, Australia. Let’s not forget Hong Kong. The Executive Centre’s rapid Asian expansion include two new facilities there. The firm also offers virtual offices.

“With the opening of 10 new serviced office centers in 2008, The Executive Centre is committed to providing our clients a network of the very best landmark business locations in Asia,” says Paul Salnikow, Chairman and CEO of the firm.

Top Notch Projects
We haven’t visited any of The Executive Centre’s serviced office spaces personally, so we’d be interested to hear from any of you that have. I’d like to know how office rentals in Asia compare to what we have in the States.

What we do know is how The Executive Centre positions itself. The company says it offers prime business district locations, Grade A buildings, cutting-edge workplace environments, and top-notch service. The Executive Centre offers what it considers avant-garde interior designs, fully equipped with the latest I.T. infrastructure, VoIP communications system, videoconferencing facilities, ergonomic executive modular furniture and Herman Miller workchairs.

In all, The Executive Centre boasts 30 locations throughout Asia-Pacific Region, of which 19 are located in Greater China. The company seems to have a fairly good reputation. It was awarded the Network World Asia All Star Award 2006 and Hong Kong Business Magazine’s High Flyers Award 2006 & 2007.

Established in 1994, The Executive Centre has expanded to 15 major cities in the Asia-Pacific region – Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macau, Taipei, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Jakarta and Sydney. The company now commands leading market shares in Hong Kong, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Macau, Taipei and Singapore.

Nice. It’s interesting to see what’s going on with executive office space in Asia. We read quite a bit about what’s happening in the U.K, less about Australia, India, etc.

This company, among others, is proving that serviced offices are viable all over the world.

This company has an impressive presence in Asia’s serviced office market. 30 executive office facilities in the Asia-Pacific makes it convenient for customers there to travel across the continent and be sure to find an office space or meeting room to meet their temporary needs.

From what I understand, some Asian countries aren’t feeling the pinch of the economic downturn as much as some western nations. That might open the door for executive office space developers to expand more aggressively there than in other nations. That said, if the economy doesn’t improve it might ripple through more stable Asian nations. Asia has been through this before.

Remember the Asian financial crisis in the 1990s? This continent might be better prepared to weather the current storm than others and therefore offer a prime opportunity for companies like Executive Centre.

Did you notice, though, that Executive Centre didn’t announce any expansion plans for 2008?

I also read yesterday that a serviced office provider in London is closing many of this locations in the western part of the city. I believe that was MLS. Of course, that’s Europe, not Asia.

It will be interesting to see what Regus does. That’s a good indicator of opportunity for executive office space providers.
