FreedomVoice Sets Employees Free in Hawaii
Published June 4th, 2009 by Jennifer LeClaire
Ready to head to Hawaii? FreedomVoice is taking its entire company to the island state as a reward for reaching its goals.
What a reward! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the company, FreedomVoice offers virtual office tools and hosted VoIP solutions. Its competitors are RingCentral and Phone.com, among many others. I can only guess that FreedomVoice is driving plenty of revenue to spring for such an expensive getaway.
Employees will enjoy free air fare and hotel accommodations. They can even bring their the significant others on the trip. (I have no idea how many employees the company has or if they are paying for the ‘significant other,’ but it’s still an awesome reward.)
Of course, the Hawaii excursion isn’t all fun and games. There will be some corporate events and activities employees have to take part in. But who cares? It’s Hawaii! FreedomVoice is also giving employees two extra days of paid vacation – and they can choose to spend it in Hawaii if they want to.
“Our employees have been nothing short of spectacular,” says Eric Thomas, CEO of FreedomVOICE. “Due to their hard work we’ve hit a major milestone in our growth. This trip to Hawaii is well deserved.”
Virtual Office Industry Growth
The virtual office industry has witnessed steady growth in a down economy as entrepreneurs and small business owners look for economical solutions to doing business, expanding into new territories, and offering local numbers in markets in which they don’t offer a full-time presence. A company based in Miami, for example, may serve its share of clients in New York and need to establish a virtual presence there.
FreedomVoice sells business owners toll free numbers along with a monthly service that aims to enhances their image and boost productivity. I’ve tried their service and have no complaints. I’ve also got an incoming extension through RingCentral. I can’t discern the difference between the two overall, though I don’t use them daily.
Thomas explains part of FreedomVoice’s value proposition: “Along with the toll free number, customers get auto attendant, call forwarding, voicemail, Internet fax, and multiple extensions,” says Thomas. “The system is meant for small business owners who want to be seen as big business, but aren’t ready to invest in a phone system.”
The Future of FreedomVoice
It was the success of the FreedomVoice Virtual Office product that got the company to where it is today, but Thomas feels that a newer product will play a major role in taking FreedomVoice into the future. That product is FreedomIQ, a hosted VoIP business phone system that’s designed to deliver significant cost savings.
“We are very pleased with the performance of the FreedomIQ Hosted VoIP PBX,” says Thomas. “New users are signing up every day. With average cost savings of 40 to 70 percent, and a range of cutting edge telecom features, it’s a very savvy product.”

Yowza. Sort of makes me wish I was working for FreedomVoice. What a great incentive. If their growth in the virtual office industry has anything to do with the hard-working employees, then this should spur continued growth. I don’t hear as much about FreedomVoice as I do about RingCentral and Phone.com in the 800 number space. Not sure why. But apparently, this virtual office technology company is doing quite well!

This is a sideways effort to give the impression that this company is growing so fast it has extra money to throw into Hawaii vacations. I suppose this could backfire on FreedomVoice… Remember AIG? OK, so FreedomVoice didn’t get a government bailout, but consumers are sensitive to these sorts of corporate retreats these days. I may be alone in this, but that’s the first thing I thought of when I heard about this virtual office mega-trip.

FreedomVoice has shown that it is trying to save its customers money in a bad economy. People appreciate that. Being sensitive to the times is critical in a recession, as history shows. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this virtual office technology provider treating its employees to a vacation. It could be that they have five employees, and it’s not much of an expense. I’m not sure I would have publicized it though. It could give the wrong impression.

I think the point of the public disclosure is to show that FreedomVoice is a company that rewards its employees for hard work. C’mon. Let’s not kill employee incentives just because AIG robbed the taxpayers blind. This is a strong virtual office technology vendor with a great reputation in the market, and apparently is growing in a down market. Congrats FreedomVoice.

I don’t know much about FreedomIQ. Does anybody know what it does compared to the 800 number services? It sounds like something beyond the scope of an entrepreneur looking for a vanity number. I’m not sure what are the benefits and drawbacks of a hosted PBX system.
