July OBCAI Webinar Focuses on Telecom
Published July 14th, 2010 by Jennifer LeClaire
Are you ready to learn about next generation of telecom? That’s the subject of the Office Business Center Association International’s (OBCAI) July Webinar—and it’s vital if you want to run a competitive, successful serviced office space.
The OBCAI understands that its members have a unique set of telecommunications requirements. For example, phone systems need to be extremely flexible, easy to maintain, and offer robust feature sets that meet the growing demand of clients, right?
In the perfect world scenario, the business center telecommunications system delivers added-value that helps attract customers and drive more revenue—with a minimal investment. That’s a tall order. But what you’ll learn from OBCAI’s July seminar, entitled, “Next Generation Telecom for the Business Center” will help you meet your goals—and meet your telecom budget.
A Telecom Veteran Speaks
The Webinar features Jim Van Meggelen, Chief Technology Officer and Partner at Core Telecom Innovations and iConverged. Meggelen, one of the authors of O’Reilly’s bestselling “Asterisk: The Future of Telephony,” will share his perspectives, which are based on more than 20 years of enterprise telecom experience. He has knowledge of both legacy and VoIP technologies. Here’s what Meggelen will discuss:
- Relevant technologies current-generation telephone systems offer
- Best practices in deploying next-gen telecom systems
- Differences between proprietary, open source, and hosted systems
Meggelen is definitely the right man for the Webinar job. He was the architect of two of the world’s largest managed enterprise voice networks. Each solution served about 20,000 users in more than 1,000 communities across Canada. The solutions offered telecommunications in five different languages, through six time zones, administered completely from a central location.
What’s more, the networks Meggelen architected pioneered the use of extensive automation and database control in a branch voice network—functionalities not generally available in proprietary telecommunications systems. Meggelen left the world of proprietary telecom, and has been working in the realm of open-source telephony for the past five years.

Sounds like OBCAI knows how to choose its experts well! I agree that telecom systems are absolutely vital to the success of business centers in today’s world. The advent of open source business models makes it much more affordable than the traditional systems. Sounds like a very informative webinar for serviced office operators!
