Office Space Advice
High-tech offices without the high-tech investment
Published November 19th, 2008 by Jennifer LeClaire
Almost every business needs the standard office equipment – and a few high-tech bells and whistles – to compete in today’s global marketplace.
But investing in faxes, copy and scanning machines, PABX systems, video conferencing solutions, LCD screens, video surveillance, a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure (and the support to keep it all up and running) can be a financial burden on small- to mid-sized businesses looking to grow in a down economy.
Executive office suites solve all those problems as part of the standard service.
With reputable serviced office companies, you can expect features like a telephone PABX system with conference calling features, digital telephones with multiple lines, call-answering options, and voicemail message storage. You can also expect always-on, broadband Internet access, built-in network security, virtual private networks, personal e-mail, online file back up and restore capabilities, and technology upgrades.
All this means no technology investment on your part, except, of course, your BlackBerry. A set up like this could cost thousands of dollars out of pocket. And when your equipment gets old or your software is outdated you’ll spend again. Serviced offices manage all the moving parts of the technology cycle, from installation to monitoring to upgrading, so that you can focus on your core business.
With serviced office rentals, you can even get plenty of low-tech support to work hand in hand with your high-tech capabilities. For example, you can get administrative assistance to manage your faxes and messages via phone or e-mail. You can also enjoy assistance sorting and delivering mail and sending your outgoing mail and faxes. All these costs are built into your executive office suite.

You make a good point. I see more and more emphasis on technology features in serviced offices. Technology is coming down in price and savvy executive office suite operators are making these investments to keep up with the latest and greatest. This is a key differentiator in today’s market. It’s up to the older office rental outfits to keep upgrading technology in order to compete. All other things being equal, technology is an important distinction.
