About Dallas, Texas
Dallas, TX is the second largest metropolitan area in Texas and ninth largest in the US with a population of over 6 million. The city’s economy is largely based on banking, technology, energy and transportation and was the fastest growing metro in the US in 2008. The central business district of Dallas has a number of great office buildings, largely built in the modernist and postmodernist movement. One particularly interesting and non-standard modernist building is Dallas City Hall, designed by I.M. Pei. It’s essentially an inverted triangular prism.
Dallas’ economic roots are centered on rail transportation, agriculture and banking (seat of the Eleventh Federal Reserve District) and by the 20th century it added telecommunications and energy (in the form of petroleum). The Dallas-Forth Worth area has 25 Fortune 500 companies and the so-called Telecom Corridor has about 5700 companies.
With its rapid growth and large number of companies, the Dallas metro area has been one of the hotbeds of executive suite development, with many of the large operators of these turnkey offices having their corporate headquarters in and around Dallas. This list includes Regus‘ US headquarters (former headquarters for HQ which was purchased by Regus), Corporate Office Centers, ABT and Meridian Business Centers. These companies comprise more than 500 of the executive suites in the US.
